What is the aim of the Partnership?

UK National Climate Science Partnership (UKNCSP) aims to transform the UK’s global leadership in climate research into actionable solutions by uniting national expertise in climate science. Recognising that understanding climate change is no longer enough, UKNCSP focuses on enabling practical responses to its impacts. Through collaboration with public and private sectors, the Partnership will deliver vital climate information to support decision-makers and businesses in building resilience and adapting to the urgent challenges of a rapidly changing climate.

Who are the programme partners?

UKNCSP is a joint partnership between the Met Office and the several Natural Environment Research Council research centres, including: British Antarctic Survey, British Geological Survey, National Centre for Atmospheric Science, National Centre for Earth Observation, National Oceanography Centre, and UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology.

What makes this Partnership unique?

UKNCSP differs from past collaborations by expanding beyond its strong foundation in numerical modelling to fully integrate observational data with climate models. This enhances the ability to monitor and predict both UK and global climate changes and their impacts. Unlike traditional efforts, the partnership reaches across scientific disciplines—such as hydrology, agriculture, risk assessment—to develop more comprehensive climate solutions. Through direct engagement with decision makers and businesses, the Partnership will develop tailored climate information and resources. This broader, multidisciplinary approach is designed to support the UK’s goals for net-zero and long-term climate resilience.
